Sustainability & Environmental impact

Filtration with A-membranes’ grafted ceramic membranes requires only a fraction of the energy use of a distillation process and provides a sustainable energy-lean alternative. The use of our grafted membranes instead of distillation will result in an important reduction of carbon emissions, up to 90%. Depending on the application and requirements, we can replace distillation entirely or intensify the process, by installing a membrane filtration unit before the distillation column and sending a richer mixture into the column.

Most of the large thermal separation processes and distillation columns are in use for the treatment (fractionation, purification, separation, …) of chemical streams, often at high temperatures or with other harsh process parameters. Their outstanding stability, resulting from the inherent stability of the ceramics combined with the excellent resistance to leaching from our grafted layers make our membranes an excellent energy-saving and CO2-reducing alternative for separations in chemical environments.

Clean Water

When using our nano-filtration technology to use rainwater or phreatic water as process water, or to recycle process water internally, customers situated in Flanders can benefit from an environmental subsidy “Ecologiepremie+” from the Flemish government.

Our tailored membrane filtration processes can eliminate very specific and difficult contaminants. A-membranes is involved in a series of projects with very difficult wastewaters. Check out our “news section” for updates on the water purification potential of our membrane technology or contact us for more information.

Efficient use of (raw) materials

Affinity based separations with grafted membranes make it possible to separate valuable products such as API’s and catalysts from waste streams and prevent them from being squandered. An accessible and low-threshold technology as membrane filtration offers a significant cost advantage to realise these product savings compared to other separation technologies.
